Nebraska Defeats Tennesse Chattanooga In Season-Opener
The Nebraska Cornhusker football team opened up the 2011 season at Memorial Stadium, with a 40 to 7 win over the Mocs of Chattanooga Saturday, September 3rd. Husker fans finally got to see Taylor Martinez and the Husker offense, play the new style of offense under OC Tim Beck. The offense came out a little sloppy in the first quarter but straightened up considerably throughout the rest of the game. Taylor Martinez led the Huskers in rushing, with 135 yards on 19 carries and 3 touchdowns. He passed 22 times and completed 11 for 116 yards. Was it his best passing game? Not really, but I noticed he seems much more comfortable in the pocket then he ever looked last season. Rex Burkhead had a great day, rushing for 75 years on 11 carries, including a nicely done 52-yard rush which was almost a touchdown. The Blackshirts held their ground, sacking Moc quarterback B.J Coleman 2 times and intercepting him once. The new offense is a work in progress, but at least we have good faith that Martinez is back to his old self. :) The Huskers go 1-0 in their Big Ten debut, and next up on September 10,Fresno State comes to town!
